Winds of Change Can Blow Wonder into Our Lives

The winds of March are caused by change. As the weather fluctuates and winter turns to spring, cold and warm air mix and create air pressure. That produces the strong winds we often experience this month. I think about change when I feel the March winds or see people flying kites on March’s windy days. Change can be stressful. But it can also be wonderful. If we approach change with hope, we can discover God’s wonder while we go through it. What may feel at first like a harsh wind can become an invigorating breeze. Winds of change can blow wonder into our lives!

What changes are you experiencing right now? Beyond the many small changes we go through each day, we also encounter big transitions. Both of my children are experiencing transitional times right now. My daughter graduated from college recently, while my son is preparing to start college. As I pray for them, I ask our unchanging God to bless them with what they need during this season of their lives. James 1:17 reveals: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” When we go through changes, we can trust that God will provide whatever we need, because his good nature and generous love for us doesn’t change. We can rely on the reality that Hebrews 13:8 describes: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

Since God’s generosity toward us never changes, God pours blessings into our lives during every season. There are distinctive aspects of God’s wondrous work we can discover at different times in our lives. The “Manage Time Well” chapter of Wake Up to Wonder covers how natural rhythms – such as the days of the week and the seasons of the year – can help us find wonder that’s distinctive to those times. It also describes how to discover wonder in the present moment, as well as through schedule interruptions that may actually be divine appointments. All of those strategies can lead us to wonder while we’re going through change.

Embracing any kind of change – big or small – opens up new opportunities for growth and transformation. It’s in the middle of change that we often find ourselves facing the unknown, and it’s precisely in that uncertainty where God’s wonder unfolds. Just as the winds of March bring a mix of cold and warm air, our life transitions can bring a mix of challenges and blessings. Just as the winds create pressure, our experiences may push us and shape us into stronger people.

As we navigate the winds of change, it’s important to hold on to hope and look for the wonder it blows into our lives. Change can be daunting, but with hope, we can transform harsh winds into refreshing breezes. It’s a perspective shift that allows us to see the wonder that change brings – new opportunities, deeper connections, and personal growth. The constancy of God’s character becomes our anchor in the middle of change. God’s unchanging nature is a source of comfort and assurance, reminding us that God holds us with love in any circumstances.

In every season of change, there are unique facets of God’s wondrous work for us to discover. Let’s embrace the changes in our lives as opportunities to experience wonder!

Blessings,

Whitney
