A Mother's Love

A mother’s love shows wholehearted devotion. Seeking God wholeheartedly is the best way to discover wonder. This month as we celebrate Mother’s Day, let the wholehearted love of moms inspire us to seek God’s wonder.

My relationships with both my daughter and son are high priorities for me. I spend time with my children not just because I have to, but because I want to – I enjoy being with them. If either one of them asks me for something, I’ll do whatever I can to respond, since my love for them compels me to do so. Wherever they are, my wholehearted love is with them. The experience of being a mother and feeling that deep well of love in my soul often helps me appreciate the unlimited love God has for me.

God loves each of us completely and unconditionally. But that’s more than just something to know; it’s something to feel in our souls. When we open ourselves up to receive God’s love wholeheartedly, we become inspired to love God and others wholeheartedly, as well. We’re bound to encounter wonder as we do.

Wake Up to Wonder includes well-being research into each of the “fruit of the Spirit” from Galatians 5:22-23, including love. Research shows choosing love offers many benefits that can help us experience awe, such as less anxiety, better stress management, and more happiness. “God is love” (1 John 4:8). The more we open our hearts to let God’s flow through our lives, the more we can notice the wonder around us and feel awe. That’s because wonder also comes from God. Experiencing wonder means seeing glimpses of God at work. God promises us in Jeremiah 29:13: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Are you living with wholehearted love each day? If not, what parts of yourself and your life do you need to open up to God so you can enjoy more wonder?

This month, let the example of a mother’s love inspire you to choose love in every situation you encounter. You’ll find lots of wonder along the way!

Blessings,

Whitney
